M. S. Ramachandran is the Chairman of Cals Refineries Ltd, the face of the refinery vertical of the Spice Energy Group. Steering Cals Refineries through the industry with focus on increasing commercial and market facing capabilities, Mr. Ramachandran is a cross-functionally capable person who has been enabling the growth of a sustainable & balanced business system.
Mr. Ramachandran began his career with Ashok Leyland and has since, worked with many energy giants such as Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC, IBP, Chennai Petroleum Corporation. Having served as an advisor to Chevron Business Development Inc., Mr. Ramachandran has played a vital role in shaping the Indian petroleum industry. Some of his achievements include being a part of the team that setup the Hydrocarbon Vision 2025, the Draft Regulatory Authority Bill, and key discussions on energy security, including hosting the first Asian Oil Minister’s Roundtable.
Mr. Ramachandran has also played an active role in conceiving, initiating, negotiating and concluding multiple arrangements, including the acquisition of IBP, Chennai Petroleum, Bongaigaon Refineries and Petrochemicals.
With innovative alliances with Haldia Petrochemicals and Reliance Petroleum, Mr. Ramachandran has been felicitated for his impressive achievements in the field numerous times. These include:
- Chemtech-Pharma Bio Hall of Fame Award, 2005 for outstanding contribution to the petroleum and petrochemicals industry
- National Institute of Industrial Engineers Lakshya Business Visionary Award, 2004
- Platts Global CEO of the Year Award, 2004 – one of two finalists from India
- Foundation of Indian Industry & Economists Best Corporate Man of the Year, 2002
Mr. Ramachandran is a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai.
